This live broadcast was recorded from the last night of the 1983 Reading Rock Festival and was the last time that Thin Lizzy performed in Britain before the tragic death of Phil Lynott. Somehow they manage to capture that live, raw energy that just makes the songs that much better. This release is predominantly the best tracks from Thin Lizzy circa 1979-1983 releases played live, most Thin Lizzy fans will concur that the songs were always at their best when presented live. Thin Lizzy are one of the few bands whose live albums are better than their studio albums. Again, while basically formula in composition, at 113 minutes it takes its time covering his life from his birth to his death on. White can still be heard on the songs 'Renegade', 'Hollywood' and 'Killer on the Loose' as they were recorded in 1981 when he was still a member of the band. It’s shot with many stills, snapshots, and home movies, while narrated over and interspersed with his music, both as part of Thin Lizzy and by himself. Their farewell concert came on 4th September that year at the Monsters Of Rock Festival in Nuremburg, Germany. Thin Lizzy’s final UK show was on 28th August 1983 at the Reading Festival. This is a great follow on from the 1978 Live & Dangerous release. Recording information: Recorded during Thin Lizzys farewell tour in 1983, which featured guest appearances by all their former guitarists apart from Snowy White. The 1983 double live album ‘Life’ included this gem from the tour but suffered from a delayed release. Sadly though, the concept of this album here would prove prophetic for Phil Lynott as he would become a victim of the same lifestyle a decade later. As a long term Thin Lizzy fan, you'll forgive me if I'm a little biased. “Overall, “Johnny the Fox” is a very underrated but superb and excellent album from Thin Lizzy, and is also the second of four “classic” releases that these legendary Irish rockers put out in the 70’s which also include 1976’s “Jailbreak”, 1977’s “Bad Reputation”, and 1979’s “Black Rose”.
